Vellankuli is a village situated in Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli District. The village consisting about 1700 houses has a mixed community of Hindus, Christians and Muslims living to gether with a pre dominance of the Saurashtra Community.

“RHEMA” Child Survival programme is one of the ongoing projects of Peace Trust in response to the Great Commission it is sponsored by Caruna Bal Vikas, Chennai, which is the country office of Compassion International. The programme is fulfilling the major needs of 94 families in Vellankuli village through its comprehensive services. Ante Natal Mothers, Post Natal Mothers and their infants benefit from this project, special emphasis is given to families who are below the poverty line. “RHEMA” programme has done yeomen services to the beneficiaries in the village of Vellankuli.Though the families were very apprehensive in accessing the services during the beginning, now the families are more forth coming and are better utilizing the services of the programme.

As the programme is entering into its 2nd phase with a 3 tier programme Need assessment studies, Focus Group Discussions, In-depth Interviews is being planned to be conducted among the beneficiaries to identify their needs and design the activities accordingly in the 2nd phase. Presently 94 families are as beneficiaries.

“RHEMA”Child Development Sponsorship Programme (Since May 2007)

Vellankuli is very prone to FILARIAS and also compounding to the problem is Grade I Consanguinity of marriage among relatives is more in this part of Tirunelveli which leads to Conjunctial Disorders for their off springs, Child Development sponsorship programme is the project benefited by the children of the beneficiaries of the CSP programme and is complimentary to the CSP programme. The aim of this programme is to develop the physical, educational, spiritual and social activities of the selected children. Presently a total of 144 children are as beneficiaries and are availing the services offered by the project.

The beneficiaries and children hail from rural and illiterate background, hence they need incessant efforts to come out successfully. This project is ideal and we take it that it has been from Our Lord, since the main thrust and Vision & Mission of Peace Trust is to offer Holistic Services to the Community. The benefits for the child are Education and required Aids, a time of study in the centre, One time Nutrition daily, Hygienic Supplies, Medical care, Social Guidance and Spiritual activities. We, in all humility, Thank The Lord, for placing this great trust on Peace Trust, to Groom, Educate, Nurture children from worldly and satanic backgrounds to make them God-fearing and prepare them take their place in life, at the age of 21.
