Tirunelveli the Oxford of the south is also considered as a high HIV prevalent state and one of the factors attributing to this scenario is the high level of Migration from this district to other parts of India. Till a decade the general community, due to lack of knowledge and the prevailing Myths and Misconceptions and stigma and discrimination, considered HIV/AIDS as a dreadful and killer disease. The project was successfully implemented during April 2008 to March 2009 for the Promotion and empowerment of the People living with HIV/AIDS and their family members in the target area of Palayamkottai and Tirunelveli Corporation with the support of BMZ/Malteser international. The project was coordinated by Pro-Vision. The PLHA involvement towards the project was excellent. They were also involved in the planning, implementing and monitoring the project at various levels. The whole year activities showed the tremendous development in the project .There was a lot of developmental changes found among PLHA and the whole Intervention. In the project period, Peace Trust holds the goal of “Enhancement of the overall quality of life of PLHA by reducing the Morbidity and Mortality through an effective Home based and institutional care and strengthening the Support Groups and the community in the target area” |
